Dashingly handsome, no signs of balding, chiseled like a Roman statue - okay, what else do you say about the guy who signs your checks? Honestly, despite an overall shoddy record of decisions regarding facial-hair (see cheesy mustache photos 1979-1986), the truth is that Simply Youth Ministry would not exist without Doug. If it weren't for his passion for ministry and driving commitment to help youth workers, we'd all have to get real jobs.

Since 1979, Doug has been serving on the front lines of youth ministry and creating helpful tools for youth workers all over the world. He'd tell you he couldn't do it without the SYM team, and we'd tell you we couldn't do it without him. He's the real deal.

The fancy stuff that people ask for when introducing Doug at a speaking event; BA Vanguard University (magna cum laude), MDiv Fuller Seminary (barely graduated), Pastor to Students at Saddleback Church (since 92), President of Simply Youth Ministry, Youth Specialties Associate (since 85), author and co-author of 30+ books including Gold Medallion winner Purpose Driven Youth Ministry and Gold Medallion finalist Your First Two Years in Youth Ministry. But, the stuff that really makes Doug tick is his family! He rarely travels and speaks anymore because of his 3 children; Torie (9th grade), Cody (6th), Cassie (3rd) and his incredible wife Cathy (married 20 years).

doug's resource picks

Your First Two Years In Youth Ministry
It's new, it's fresh, it's real. I've had a lot of youth workers say, "I felt like I was sitting down and talking with you at a restaurant." That was my goal! I want youth workers to survive.
  Purpose Driven Youth Ministry
My second favorite book. It's all over the world and helping people to think through youth ministry. I'm humbled and honored by the response.
  The Power Of Sex Super-Series
I think they are very helpful resources for youth workers. If I had to chose a favorite, I'd go with The Power of Sex because of all the bonus material.
